the energy requirements of physical activity by Dominique Dumas

Our diet is the key to good physical activity , it provides us energy for our activities and allows the maintenance of our body mass and our physiological functions .

Energy balance constitutes the difference between what is absorbed (food and drinks) and what is spent (vital functions and physical activities). If our calorie consumption is more than we burn, there is an imbalance which results in weight gain.

Whether we want to lose weight or gain weight, we must keep in mind the essential balance between our energy and structural needs.

Let’s calculate together!

Determining appropriate intake depends on several variable factors:

  • Basal metabolism (MB) (determined based on weight, sex, height and age); it corresponds to the energy spent by the body at rest to maintain vital functions (breathing, digestion, sleeping, etc.)

  • Physical activity level (PAL)

Adequate dietary intake = MB x NAP

(it must be distributed equitably throughout the day, taking into account the times and duration of training.)
